Installation And Maintenance of Industrial Valves

In today's Industry every drop is important and every drop leakage adds to the production cost. These leaks come from various sources, typically pumps, valves and flange joints. This can be reduced considerably if not eliminated totally,by various steps.Valve leakage can be reduced by:

  • Prior selection of valves to the type of valve, material of construction, size and design conditions.
  • Proper Installation.
  • Periodic & Preventive Maintenance

Selecting a Valve

For best overall satisfaction choose valves that best meet your process requirements.Things to consider include:

  • Flow rate, media, temperature and pressure & Whether Throttling or On-Off
  • Valve should provide sufficient flow.

Preparing to Install the Valve

  • Always handle valves carefully to avoid damage.
  • Always store valves in a protected area in sealed containers.
  • Pay special attention to protecting the closure / seat elements.
  • Before installing a valve,be sure it is clean.
  • Wipe or blow down the valve's inner workings if in doubt.

General Recommendations

  • Prior to installation and service, lines should be tested and flushed with clean water, air or steam. Perform cleaning and flushing with all valves in the open position for thorough cleaning. Correct all leaks as detected.
  • After cleaning cycle the valves and re-flush the lines.
  • Re-check all piping components for leaks, tightened bolts and stem seal gland packing.
  • Careful valve repacking gives a better seal - Lengthens Packing Life.
  • Pipe Hangers and supports pay for themselves in maintenance savings.
  • Give valves plenty of headroom.
  • Identification of lines.
  • Hammering in line does serious damage.
